Sherlock Holmes is a fictional detective created by Scottish author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Named after the famous British detective, Sherlock Holmes first appeared in publication in 1887.

In his 56 short stories and four novels, Holmes employs deductive reasoning, forensic science, and good old-fashioned legwork to solve some of the most notorious crimes of Victorian England. The character is noted for his sharp intellect, skillful use of observation and deduction to solve complicated cases.

Throughout the majority of his adventures, he is assisted by Dr. John Watson, his friend and chronicler who provides a narration for each case.

Though the stories are set in the late 19th century, Holmes' methods are still being used today as models for real-life criminal investigations.

If you're looking for a place to buy ebooks, there are a lot of sites to choose from. You can find some good deals, but it takes some work.

The most popular ebook stores are Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Kobo. But if you're looking for something different, here are some other options:

Google Play Books is Google's ebook store and reading app. It has more than five million titles available and works on Android devices (as well as iOS devices). The store lets you read books in either HTML5 or PDF format — there's no native application that lets you read books on your computer.

Apple iBooks is the official bookstore for Apple's iOS platform and Mac OS X operating system. It has more than three million titles available and works on iPhones, iPads and iPod touches; it also works on Macs running OS X 10.8 or later versions of the operating system. iBooks includes Apple's iBookshelf feature that lets users manage their collection of purchased books from within the app itself instead of having to go back to the iTunes Store application every time they want to add another title to their library or delete one from it
